Adobe announced on Tuesday that it will open its Museum of Digital Media on the 6 October.
According to the announcement, "...the AMDM is an interactive venue to present and preserve groundbreaking digital media works, inspire creative ideas and experimentation, and provide a forum for expert commentary on how digital media influences culture and society."
The site is a collaboration between Adobe, Piero Frescobaldi, co-founder of UK digital production company unit9; Filippio Innocenti, professor of Architecture Technology at Politecnico di Milano University; and San Francisco based advertising agency Goodby, Silverstein and Partners.
Adobe says that the AMDM is designed to replicate the experience of a physical museum, with a three-stage encounter taking visitors through exterior and interior structures with a 'viewing pod' for exhibitions.
The inaugural exhibition will be "Valley" by American artist Tony Oursler, which "explores our relationship to the Internet." Raucous, disarming humour is promised.
The museum's web site currently displays an interactive introduction composed in Flash, which will be the underlying technology of the site. This will not be displayable on iPhones and iPads, devices notably popular among designers, artists and workers in digital graphics.
