HSBC hardware glitch causes ATM outage

HSBC customers had problems withdrawing money from cash machines and paying by HSBC debit cards on Sunday after a hardware failure, according to the bank.

UK Anonymous branch takes down DWP site

A UK branch of Anonymous called the ATeam has claimed responsibility for taking down the website of the Department for Work and Pensions.

The group launched a distributed-denial-of-service (DDoS) attack on the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) website on Friday afternoon after a Channel 4 'Dispatches' documentary found that the DWP had disciplined 992 staff in ten months over data offences.

UK Facebook hacker sentenced to jail for a year

A man has been sent to jail for hacking into a Facebook account and accessing the email facility.

Gareth Crosskey, a 21 year-old man from Lancing in Sussex, was arrested on 14 July 2011 by officers from the Metropolitan Police Central eCrime Unit (PCeU), having committed the offence in January 2011, the Metropolitan Police said in a statement on Wednesday.

CSC blames poor performance on NHS debacle

US systems integrator CSC has said a 'poor' yearly performance was in part due to NHS write-offs.

CSC earnings per share for its 2012 fiscal year fell by $10.03 (£6.34) due to NHS losses, the company said in a statement on Thursday, in addition to a goodwill impairment of $17.41 per share. CSC's full-year revenue was $15.88bn, compared with $16.04bn in 2011.

Drive-by espionage attacks target Java, Flash flaws

Hackers are using vulnerabilities in Oracle Java and Adobe Flash to carry out drive-by attacks on visitors to foreign policy, defence, and humanitarian websites, according to security volunteer organisation the Shadowserver Foundation.

Twitter wants to work with UK government

Social network Twitter has said it wants to work more closely with UK policy makers, according to the BBC.

HP preps updated ProLiant Gen 8 servers

HP has announced updates for its ProLiant Generation 8 server line, which HP has said increase datacentre automation, compared with previous HP servers.

Five of the new servers, which are part of its HP's Project Voyager push will use Intel Xeon E5-2400 processors. The HP ProLiant DL360e Gen8 is a one-rack-unit server aimed at SMEs. The HP ProLiant DL380e Gen8 is a two-rack-unit server for use in datacentres.... Read more

Filters for adult content on mobile networks are blocking innocent websites, according to a report by the Open Rights Group and the London School of Economics.
