Daniel Glazman @glazou, co-chairman of the CSS Working Group, has published a dramatic call for action entitled The open web needs you NOW, which has swept like wildfire across the web community.
He is asking that websites don’t cater solely for webkit-based browsers (that’s Safari, Chrome and most Android & iOS browsers).
ie NO works-only-in-WebKit websites.
And no return to the dark days of Internet Explorer-style mono-browser culture.
Here’s a bullet point summary of how you can do your bit:
- Stop designing web sites for WebKit only.
- Sop WebKit-based browser sniffing .
- Stop recommending web sites that require one single browser.
- Update websites to support other browsers.
- Contact authors of offending websites & complain.
- Apple and Google to submit ASAP complete technical proposals for the proprietary CSS-like properties to the CSS Working Group.
