Such a title could appear as flame-fanning disingenuity but if you have an Android phone, then just compare the WordPress app with the Drupal app.

Exactly.

(Apologies to iPhone users but there doesn't appear to even be an iDrupal app).

For those poor desktop users caught in the noughties, screengrabs of the respective pages should give you a flavour:

WordPress for Android screengrab
WordPress for Android website screengrab

Drupal Editor - Android Market screengrab
Drupal Editor app website screengrab

This is not a criticism of Drupal Editor, rather it highlights the differences that appear inherent between the WordPress and Drupal platforms. WordPress is slick, easy-to-use, with wide appeal. Drupal is complex, dense, powerful and sometimes impenetrable.

I am sure there are good reasons for why WordPress has such a highly polished surface when compared to Drupal but it really does affect the public perception and hence perceived standing of the respective platforms.

Talkback

Just for info purposes, I've just discovered that what used to be windows live spaces has been changed to WordPress and the hosting is done on Microsoft's live hotmail servers.

I am a big believer in open source, long term Drupal evangelist (uid 188 :-) and have been using WP as well for certain sites.

Reading a sad story like this, makes half of me say "let the man [m/f] grow some braincells, ignore, continu" and my other half is here debunking pure FUD.

I am sorry to say that this is the worste title and article I have seen ever. Not because I prefer Drupal above WP (love them both but I do indeed prefer Drupal), but since these kind of fallacy is so bad, so complete braindead I feel for sorry for the writer and anyone reading this.

"I prefer planes over cars since gras is green"

Anyone can see how stupid this is. Yet, a company like ZDNt let stuff like this be published. So lets debunk this sentence.

First, there is not "better". Being from the EU, I indeed prefer a plane above a car when I want to go the the US. "better" is better in the usecase, being dependent on the context. If you want to travel 2000 miles, use a plane. If you want to get groceries, use a car (or even better, as we do in the NL, a bike :-)

If you want a simple blog or portfolio site, WP might be a good fit . If you want a high volume complex community site, Drupal might be better.

Second, what has the color of the grass to do with the transport I think is "better". Little or in fact nothing. Yet, ZDNet publishes this. What has the quality or abscense of a native app on a mobile system to do with a *WEB* CMS? Little or in fact nothing.

We are talking about a, let me spell this, w e b CMS and the most important criteria to see who can pee further is the abscense or quality of a NATIVE app? *sigh*

BTW: there are several native Drupal iOS apps, for example http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/drupad-drupal-on-the-go/id378485000?mt=8

I hope the writer picks up a few braincells and start mowing the lawn instead of writing FUD. It is green after all. He might enjoy it. More people will watch him and like the works he does then writing this kind of linkbait "articles".

Me? I just wished the other part of my brain won.

@Bert

You hope that the writer picks up a few braincells and start mowing the lawn instead of writing FUD? I'm not so worried about the writer mowing grass as I am about him smoking it, because the article appears to have been written by someone that is seriously high.

@Bert Boerland: " half of me say "let the man [m/f] grow some braincells, ignore, continu" and my other half is here debunking pure FUD."

I use both Drupal and WordPress and consider myself blessed to have such fantastic Free Software to use, free of charge, with vast and vibrant communities for both of them.

My point is that WordPress is better than Drupal when it comes to *presentation* to the general unknowing public, and that presentation is in the interface and in the tools and marketing that surround it. It is also IMHO better than Drupal with simplicity of use (case in point is that the Blog API has been removed from Drupal 7 core, which that users can't post easily using 3rd party blog apps http://rocktreesky.com/upgrading-drupal-7 )

They *are* different beasts/vehicles yet I have a nagging suspicion that Drupal's profile and accessibility could be vastly improved if the public-facing tools were improved too. I don't know how and I don't know why but it's a conversation worth having.

Just to add more grist to the mill, Bryan House, the VP of Acquia, said in a Lullabot podcast http://bit.ly/o4dcx9 'where Drupal falls down is user experience for content contributors'. Or something very similar.

well, I'll try hard not to criticize the author. But really when people say they don't like certain things, probably they just have trouble doing that thing.

The topic that the author brought is nothing to do with Wordpress or Drupal. All php framework supports some theme engine. Wordpress comes with some default interface design, while Drupal's default interface is a bit more blocky.

But you know what, it's more like your girl friend issue. She doesn't wear the clothes that you like today. Of course you can handle that, right ?

Drupal takes a lot effort to get to know better. So if you have trouble, either stay out of this mess or find a good teacher, or I mean video tutorial.
