Problems signing into certain websites. Please help.

Hi there.

Yesterday, I downloaded a skin for MSN, and tried to install it, the website was a fan-made website, so I assumed it was trustworthy for such a fun thing to download. But anyway, I downloaded this Sonic the Hedgehog skin for MSN, and the skin was named msnmsgr.exe, the same as the MSN application. It told me to rename the MSN application as something else, so the skin could be installed and MSN would have a backup, incase something went wrong. I did just that.

The skin worked, but I noticed I could not sign into MSN. I got this message, "Sorry, we are unable to sign you into the MSN Messenger at this time. Please try again later."

I wiped off MSN from my computer along with the skin and reinstalled MSN, I still could not sign in. I tried to sign up for a new account, and the classic "Page cannot be displayed" appeared. I thought there might've been a problem with MSN. I try signing into Hotmail, same message. I cannot sign into Windows Messenger either.

Later on, I tried to sign up for World of Warcraft. I get the same message. "Page cannot be displayed." Now, I notice I get the same message when attempting to sign into Ebay and Amazon. Does anybody know what this problem is? I am able to sign into other websites just fine. Along with AOL Instant Messenger. I've looked through all my internet settings, everything is as it was before.

This is a very strange problem for just certain websites. I really need help on this, as I need to be able to sign into eBay to pay for the Christmas presents I have ordered. =( Please help.

I am her friend, and troubleshooting this problem has gotten very strange results. The problem seems to be whenever she tries to sign into anything encrypted, such as HTTPS. This includes World of Warcraft, so the problem is not her browser. We tried IPCONFIG, and everything came up normal except that the DNS Suffix was missing. We tried pinging the gateway, and all the requests timed out. Oddly enough, the result was the same when we tried to ping Google. However, accessing non-secure stuff seems to be fine {including Google through the web browser). If the encryption problems are not her browser, then I have no idea what it is.
