RSS feed "News at ZDNet UK" fails using RSS Bandit.

Saturday 2 December 2006, 1:42 PM

Clicking on the title link of each article using RSS Bandit displays the
following error in IE7: Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage

On further investigation, the RSS feed "News at ZDNet UK"
(http://feeds.zdnet.co.uk/public/0,1000001346,0,00.htm) fails the validation
process at http://feedvalidator.org/.

The result of the validation is as shown: Sorry This feed does not validate.
a.. line 17, column 47: guid must be a full URL, unless isPermaLink
attribute is false: zdnetuk/39284843 (10 occurrences) [help]

This problem occured after ZDNet launched their new website. Does anyone else have the same problom or know how to resolve it as I do value the RSS feed "News at ZDNet UK" and would not want to give it up.

I've not had any problems with the new RSS, but then perhaps Google feed reader isn't as concerned about the guid element as IE7. but htem MS have made a point of only accepting well formed XML.

Guess it's up to the ZDNet tech guyus to fix the RSS feed via isPermaLink="false" or adding a proper url for each item.

Thanks for the reply. What are the chances of persuading the ZDNet tech guys to fix the RSS feed. I already sent an e-mail to uk.customersupport@zdnet.co.uk and did not get a response. I will send another one perhaps with a reference to this forum post.

Ignore previous post, it appears the ZDNet tech guys have corrected the RSS feed. Thanks.

Hi Ade,

Fixed on Monday afternoon :) Thanks for flagging it up -- we've had a few teething problems with the new site but they're being fixed even as I type.

Cheers,

Graeme
