Tech shortcomings endanger troops
What's next? Long distance RFID on soldiers?

The computer did it will get a whole new meaning...

So on the one hand combat (certainly long range and special missions) is about stealth, surprise, secrecy and such and on the other hand identifying friend or foe should be a push of the button thing. How are you going to establish that, with much better results then currently, without sending some signal (that therefor can be detected and give away positions)? Or worse, copied.

Can't tax money be better spend? This all sounds a bit like wishful thinking to me. On what basis was this project budgeted?

It wouldn't be the first time that new technology that took years to develop is hacked, cracked, bypassed, circumvented or whatever within days after it's first practical use in the field.
