When will they finally make devices that can have their OS updated to the newest versions??

It already happens - see a recent blog of mine here - but unless you have an unlocked phone you are pretty much at the mercy of your operator on this one.

Hi David, I can't seem to get past the serial number part. Would that my device is originally from Oz?

Well you'll probably need to get the update via the original operator, unless it's unlocked in which case - certainly if it's HTC - you can get the upgrade through the manufacturer's website...

Something to note, by the way. I upgraded my T-Mobile Vario II (the TyTn by any other name) from WInMob 5 to 6, partly because it was supposed to make the power efficiency better. It made it worse.

I know "caveat emptor", but what's the Latin for "let the upgrader beware"?

I got some kind of upgrade through the Microsoft website but other than update the word/excel/powerpoint icons, I find it no different. Saving my pennies for the Touch Dual anyway, I love the new UI.
