Mozilla reveals mobile Firefox
about time

Monday 28 April 2008, 4:53 PM

It's about time for an OS browser for mobiles. So far there are no good alternatives for preinstalled browsers other than say opera mobile, which costs too much in my opinion.

Handsets are still vastly different from desktops, and mobile software is prone to quirky failures on different hardware - or different versions of the same hardware.

I was surprised when I read your comment about "no free browser for mobiles", because I am running Opera on my Nokia 6234, and I'm sure it was free. So I checked the Opera web page, and sure enough you are right - well, we both are right. Opera Mini runs on most phones, provides good, basic browsing, and its free. Opera Mobile runs on Symbian and Windows Mobile smartphones, and is much more powerful than Opera Mini, with tabs, speed dial, and Flash support. It costs $24, or 19 Euros, which is not a lot, but you're right, it's not free.
