Spamfighter exceeds its authority

Wednesday 14 May 2008, 8:49 AM

Having used Spamfighter through various (free and Pro) versions over some years now (currently using 6.2.42), overall I'm very happy with it. I've tried numerous other products and it's by far the best and the easiest to use. The Pro (paid-for) version does not have the annoying messages on outgoing mails and, according to technical support does not scan outgoing emails. However, I have found that when I try to send to my bank a particular phishing email for their fraud department to investigate, it gets moved to my Spamfighter folder instead of the Outlook Sent folder. Technical support denied that this could happen and suggested reinstalling the latest version of SF - but this makes no difference. They then claimed it must be due to Outlook rules or a configuration error - but I don’t use any and I have replicated this problem on several different versions of SF (even going back to an old version 5) and on 2 different PCs. It looks to me as though SF is surreptitiously scanning my outgoing emails. This is very worrying and potentially illegal under EU law. I’m wondering if anyone else has encountered this problem and knows the answer. In the meantime, if you value your privacy, you may wish to switch to a different spam checker.
