The practice carries out consultancy assignments in a number of business areas that include: - 'Classic' strategic sourcing involving the analysis of third party spend, strategy development and category engagement in both direct and indirect materials; - Supplier relationship management to release value from existing, often complex supplier relationships; - Design, implementation and use of web based procurement solutions to meet specific client needs including workflow and catalogue, e-sourcing and analytics; - Training and capability development of client teams; - Process and organisation design. In addition to these core activities the group works in conjunction with IBM's own supply chain organisation to provide support to clients who may want to outsource or offshore all or part of their third party spend. As a centre of excellence it also provides support and resource to other countries where specific procurement expertise is required. In the past couple of years the client base has included the leading ompanies and organisations in the following areas: banking and insurance, aerospace and defence, consumer packaged goods manufacture, mobile telecoms, local and central government, industrial manufacturing, retail, pharmaceuticals, power and water utilities. Assignments range from weeks to months and generally consultants work in teams of between 1 and 6 either as a stand alone team or as part of a broader transformation activity. At any one time approximately 15%- 30% of the group is working overseas. Where possible project managers try and structure the working week so that 4 days are spent at the client site and one day working at home, although this is not guaranteed. In addition to their delivery roles consultants are expected to fulfil additional activities as required, this may include support to proposals, people management, proposition development and any other activities associated with the management of a successful consultancy practice. Opportunities for advancement are good and IBM offers a comprehensive training package to support consultants through their career. Dependent on grade of entry candidates are expected to have a minimum of three to ten years procurement experience gained within a blue chip organisation or government department. They must be able to demonstrate a track record of success and an in depth knowledge of either one or more spend categories or industries preferably both. As at November 2007 the priority experience groups are as follows although high calibre candidates will be considered whatever their background. Categories: Marketing, professional services, MRO, direct materials (particularly, pharmaceutical, fooodstuff and engineered products), retail merchandising, travel, banking and insurance services, capital expenditure, freight and shipping. Industry Background: Other consultancies, public sector, banking and insurance, manufacturing, aerospace and defence, utilities, retail, travel Solutions: Purchase to Pay, E-sourcing and spend analysis Candidates whose experience purely relates to solution implementation and configuration are unlikely to be considered. However if they can combine this with a commercial background this becomes an added advantage. In addition to their technical skills candidates must be able to demonstrate the following. A strong academic background including a first degree from a recognised academic institution. (This may be waived for very experienced candidates) Self confidence and an ability to build relationships with clients at senior level A structured approach to their work and the ability to innovate The ability to construct and deliver high calibre presentations An enthusiasm for business development Complete fluency in English both, written and spoken and, the ability to articulate both orally and on paper 100% mobility during the working week ( not meeting this criteria will cause rejection at CV review) In addition to the above the following are added advantages International Experience A Second Language A Post Graduate qualification in a relevant discipline.
