Achilles is a business provider of supplier management solutions operating worldwide through 23 local offices with 400+ employees.   Following a significant investment from a European sector focused private equity firm, the company is geared for substantial growth and an extensive change management programme. 

 

Purpose of the Job:

 

Responsibility for initial support and troubleshooting of internal & customer facing applications including production software releases.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

1.        To act as the initial point of contact for internal staff for troubleshooting customer facing sites and applications to identify where the problem resides and which department to hand to.

2.        Assist with application based troubleshooting and resolution where appropriate.

3.        Ensure that all software releases to controlled environments adhere to the agreed standards. 

4.        Responsible for the release of software to controlled environments, handling file and IIS based changes, as well as agreeing availability of additional resources as required e.g. Database Administrators, Networks etc and managing through to release completion.

5.        Assisting software engineers across the Group with release notes / procedures

6.        Work within the framework of corporate standards and policies, contributing to their development, particularly in change management and change control

7.        Assistance with general desktop support and Active Directory maintenance when required.

8.        Help to influence and improve, Desktop Support, Change and Release disciplines and policies within Achilles

Knowledge and Skills

 

Proficiency (typically 3 years relevant commercial experience) with:

  • Operating Systems and related infrastructure applications - Windows NT/2000/2003 & IIS
  • Active Directory
  • Access control methods and solutions
  • Relevant Windows scripting tools ? Batch, OSQL & PowerShell
  • A variety of application types such as Internet, intranet or e-commerce business systems
  • Production and maintenance of documentation
  • Broad understanding and application of Security standards
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience in working in a structured environment
  • Excellent organizational skills

 Familiar with:

  • SQL 2000/2005
  • .Net development experience / Application Support
  • Structured application development methodologies
  • Business improvement processes
  • Software deployment best practices
  • Project planning and the role of project management
  • A variety of internally developed or third party sourced application types such as Internet, intranet or e-commerce business systems and their needs in terms of Network infrastructure
  • System configuration and configuration management
  • ITIL concepts and procedures

Physical factors

 

A good record of health and attendance. Excellent communication skills and an ability to work in an organized and structured way are important to this post.

 

Person specification

 

It is important the postholder is self-motivated and can show enthusiasm and commitment for the key areas of responsibility. They should be able to make evident a forward thinking approach as it will be imperative to find solutions to issues which will mean working proactively.

 

They should be able to demonstrate an ability to deal with internal customers and sound planning and organizational skills. Effective personal time management is essential. A good team player is required who seeks to involve others at all times.

 

Additional information

 

This post will require regular travel throughout the UK and internationally.
