MS tightens Java support in IE 3.0 beta

25 Jul 1996 17:18

The storm of free Web browser software continued yesterday as Microsoft uploaded a version of Internet Explorer (IE) with faster, tighter Java support, plus a new IE for Macintosh beta.

Microsoft only shipped its just-in-time Java compiler in the beta release issued last week. Netscape uses a compiler licensed from Borland.

The Mac release is beta 1 of IE 2.1 for Macintosh, with more Favourites options, frames support, and colours for table borders.
