UK electronics retail giant Dixons Group announced upbeat figures for the financial year ending 27 April 1996, saying PCs had contributed significantly to the numbers.

The company made a £125m profit on revenues of £1,901m compared to earnings of £90.5m on £1,546 sales a year earlier. A press release said PC World superstores had made an "excellent contribution" and that there had been "rapid growth in PCs and related products", totaling 23 per cent of all Dixons sales, compared to 16 per cent for the year earlier.

PC World contributed sales of £262m, up from £125m the previous year. Dixons said sales were up sharply after the release of Windows 95 in August and said 12 new stores had opened in the financial year. Average transaction values were also up. 10 more stores are planned for the 1996/97 financial year. Dixons says a base of at least 60 PC World stores is feasible for the UK.
