CompuServe won't play name game

CompuServe won't change its name when it changes its look and feel at the end of this month, the firm's UK office said today.

Reports stemming from the US last Friday suggested the online service would change its brand name from CompuServe to CSI, in line with three-letter naming conventions from the Microsoft Network's MSN and America Online's AOL, to coincide with the release of a new user interface. Mail would also be sent to a CSI domain, for example, jbloggs@csi.com, the report said.

However, CompuServe UK PR manager Pauline Blakemore said: "There are no plans to change name in Europe or in the US to the best of my knowledge. CSI is a little logo related to a specific [forthcoming] product but doesn't reflect a change of name."
