Microsoft is applying its Office approach to tools with the release of Visual Studio 97, an all-in-one suite for client/server and Web-based development.

Visual Studio 97 will include Visual Basic, Visual C++, Visual J++, Visual FoxPro and Visual InterDev. Microsoft manager for the Internet platforms group Jeremy Gittens called the suite "Office for developers".

The product will be rolled out on March 19 at Developer Days, Microsoft's huge code-fest taking place in 45 countries (more details can be gained by telephoning 0990-228811).
