The DVD Player', from VideoLogic, works with a user's existing graphics card and is aimed at the OEM and upgrade markets.
Sony announced its DDU220E Retail Pack which is an internal ATAPI drive capable of reading a DVD-ROM disc at 5x max speed. The DDU220E Retail Pack includes an MPEG-2 decoder card and DVD software that "allows the user to access special DVD features within 10 minutes".
David Harold at VideoLogic reckons "DVD is going to be big". Providing some evidence, he said: "There are 150 UK movie titles destined for DVD by Christmas alone. This time last year there were about ten titles in total. Industry analyst Datamonitor, predicts that by the year 2002 of the expected 91m software titles shipped, 71m will be in the DVD-ROM format.
Videologic's DVD Player retails at £119. Sony's DDU220E retails at £212
