AltaVista is rumoured to be planning a floatation in March, according to the Financial Times Wednesday. The likely valuation is given at $5bn.

The FT also reports that AltaVista had entered into discussions with Internet investment group CMGI regarding a possible a possible tie-up with search engine Lycos.
