News Burst: Siemens smartcard tech cracked

The chip that powers Siemens' digital signature smartcard has been cracked and details of its architecture posted on German newsgroups, raising serious questions about its security.

Matthias Brüstle has posted details of how the card's Chip Resource Management System (CMS/RMS) works to a number of newsgroups suggesting that it can be bypassed in a number of ways, compromising the security of the card.
