Didn't the Government do this back in July? Well, they've got to fix a few anomalies now

UK e-commerce could get a much needed boost as the British government takes steps to give digital signatures the same legal standing as real ones.

The Cabinet Office has asked industry body E-Centre UK, to suggest amendments to current laws stating a document is only legally binding if it has been signed or physically exchanged.

The Government is aiming to have amended at least 50 laws by the end of 2001.
