Gates to sell five million Microsoft shares

03 Aug 2001 09:20

Microsoft chairman Bill Gates files plans with the Securities and Exchange Commission to sell five million shares of stock in his company

The planned sales are valued at $335.45m. Gates, one of the richest people in the world, often sells shares of his company as part of a regular investment program. In May, he filed plans to sell eight million shares.

Registering to sell the shares does not obligate Gates to sell them. He owns roughly 700 million shares of stock in the company.
