The European Commission is supporting a child safety Web surfing campaign that has dubbed Tuesday "Safer Internet Day".
Insafe, an EC-backed group made up of 65 international organisations, is promoting the day in a bid to make children more aware of the dangers that can be encountered online.
As part of the day, Viviane Reding, a Member of the European Commission responsible for Information Society, is heading events for children in the UK.
Children in 19 countries have been invited to participate in a school storytelling competition, and campaign organisers are also hosting conferences, Internet literacy programs in schools and launching several Web sites including an 'Internet safety awareness portal' at saferinternet.org.
