London plans for shared content management

Greater London Authority and London Development Agency plan to provide a content-management system as a shared service for the capital

The Greater London Authority announced on Wednesday that, together with the London Development Agency, it had signed a joint deal with web technology company Amaze to provide a content-management system as a shared service for the capital.

It was described as a first step towards greater integration of technology between the Greater London Authority (GLA), the GLA Group and the London boroughs by allowing government bodies in the city to buy into the service at a discounted rate.

The new system has been set up to encourage the integration of web-based activities across the capital under the London portal website.

A spokesperson for the GLA told GC News that the procurement has been structured to provide discounts for the boroughs that take up the system, which should provide savings over procuring their own systems. It is planning to launch the system early in 2008.

David Munn, head of the GLA Technology Group, said: "This is an important step towards consolidating a vast range of information and services that are provided on the internet. This is the beginning of the process, but we have a real opportunity to develop the london.gov.uk website to deliver a one-stop-shop for all Londoners and visitors."

The underlying content-management technology is being provided by SDL Tridion.
