HP iPAQ 914 Business Messenger
Aimed at mobile professionals who require a fully-featured device with a QWERTY keyboard, the iPAQ 914 Business Messenger is a chunky Windows Mobile 6 smartphone with an impressive specification: 520MHz Marvell PXA270 processor, 256MB ROM and 128MB RAM, quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE plus 3G/HSDPA connectivity, 802.11b/g Wi-Fi, integrated GPS receiver and preloaded Google Maps, 3-megapixel camera (on 914c model) and microSD card slot. It has a 2.46in. touch-screen and weighs 146g. Talk time is rated at 4 hours, standby at 250 hours.
HP is keen to stress the corporate credentials of its new business-focused iPAQs, which come preloaded with the agent for HP's Enterprise Mobility Suite (EMS). EMS facilitates over-the-air device setup, configuration, diagnostics and security.
The iPAQ 914 Business Messenger will be available in October/November and will cost £339 (ex. VAT) SIM-free.
HP iPAQ 614 Business Navigator
This device has the same specification and weight as the 914 model, but comes in a more phone-like form factor featuring a 2.8in. 240-by-320-pixel touch-screen and a 12-key keypad. You can also get this smartphone with optional HP navigation software, maps and a car-mounting kit. The iPAQ 614 Business Navigator, like the 914, will cost £339 (ex. VAT) SIM-free.
HP iPAQ 314 Travel Companion
This standalone GPS navigation device is built around a 4.3in. 800-by-480-pixel TFT touch-screen, runs Windows CE 5.0, is powered by a dual-core 600MHz Centrality Titan processor and has 2GB of on-board flash storage (with a high-capacity SD card slot available to augment this). It comes with HP navigation software that includes an innovative 3D display, while the GPS receiver is optimised to give a rapid time-to-first-fix. Bluetooth 2.0 support allows you to link the iPAQ 314 to your mobile phone and use the device to make hands-free calls. The iPAQ 314 Travel Companion, which also comes with a media player, will cost £212 (ex. VAT).
HP iPAQ 214 Enterprise Handheld
HP does not subscribe to the notion that the traditional PDA (i.e. a handheld without a built-in phone) is dead, citing continuing interest from (and sales into) vertical business markets, as well as the health and education sectors. The iPAQ 214 Enterprise Handheld, which runs Windows Mobile 6 Classic, is the new flagship handheld, featuring a 4in. VGA-resolution TFT touch-screen, 802.11b/g Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0 and two expansion slots (SDIO and CompactFlash). It's a sizeable device, measuring 76mm wide by 126mm deep by 16mm thick and weighing 192g. The iPAQ 214 Enterprise Handheld will cost £216 (ex. VAT).
HP iPAQ 114 Classic Handheld
It's been a while since we've seen a basic handheld like the iPAQ 114, but this slim (13.6mm) and affordable (£170 ex. VAT) Windows Mobile 6 device could prove useful to those who don't want to give up their existing mobile phones. Its specification isn't too shabby either: 624MHz Marvell PXA310 processor, 256MB ROM and 64MB RAM, 3.5in. TFT touch-screen, 802.11b/g Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 2.0 and a high-capacity SDIO card slot.
