Win an Intel quad-core processor and motherboard bundle

20 Dec 2007 16:56

This quad-core Intel processor and motherboard bundle will give your PC a new lease of life. We've got one to give away on Day 11 of our Christmas competition.

You can never have enough speed, and this Intel kit should shift your PC up a gear. It marries a quad-core processor with one of Intel's fastest motherboards to rev up performance for high-powered work and play.

The Intel Core 2 Extreme QX9650 processor runs at 3GHz and features Intel's quad-core technology, so it comes into its own when the computer is handling multiple tasks simultaneously. Certain tasks can be off-loaded to specific cores. That means you can have a hard-disk defrag rolling along in the background at the same time that you're working on a video edit — or even playing a high-spec video game.

What's more, the processor is built on two cutting-edge technologies: a 45nm (nanometre) manufacturing process and hafnium-infused circuitry. That means it can deliver more performance without using more energy. There's also scope to provide a bigger L2 cache than before — a total of 12MB.

It comes with a 1,333MHz front-side bus. For those who like to push the limits, Intel has removed the processor bus ratio locks, meaning you can fine-tune your system the way you like it.

One lucky winner will nab one of these processors plus an Intel motherboard, the Intel Desktop Board DX38BT, designed to bring out the best in the Intel Core 2 Extreme processor. It has support for the 1,333MHz bus, fast DDR3 memory and overclocking.
