Apple has unveiled its fastest Mac ever, and doubled the power of its Xserve server.

Just before Macworld, Apple has unveiled a Mac Pro with eight processor cores and a new system architecture. Apple said its two 45-nanometer Intel Quad-Core Xeon processors running at up to 3.2GHz will double the power of its predecessor.

The new Mac has a 1600MHz frontside bus (FSB) and accommodates up to 32GB of 800MHz memory. It comes with an ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT graphics card with 256MB of video memory.

The standard 8-core Mac Pro will cost £1,749 (inc. VAT).

Apple says it has doubled the power of its Xserve server by boosting its memory bandwith with a 1600MHz system bus and 800MHz memory. It also boasts 8-core processing power with Intel Xeon 'Harpertown' 5400 chips, 3TB of internal storage and 32GB of 800MHz memory.

The standard Xserve will cost £1,999 (inc. VAT).
