You are correct; I don't own My HP computer which came prefoaded with Microsoft XPHome; it's like putting a fence around a city and you can't get out. They refused to find www.fla-art org or Sshaughnessy@dos.state.fl.us which I needed info for because I am selling an original painted/blck-wht pic monies to be donated to my church. Only Enigma went to this spot. However, I did notice that on one of microsoft's pulldown windows they offered porn sites.
!) I bought this hp computer pre-installed with microsoft xp home; can I get out of this software?
2) When I chose Enigma as my default browser most of my desktop shortcuts changed (including Yahoo Mail, but Ebay, My Bank, and Paypal refused (?!) & kept Advanced Browser. So I uinstalled Advanced Browser, only to find the above 3, when selected, would only go to "print"; no browser. Somewhere in my fighting Advanced browser slipped back into the above 3 desktop shortcut sites(??!!) I questioned HP, but when I hit 'next' it would not go so my email to hp customer support never got sent. Now, when I hit my bank advanced browser sometimes takes me to ebay 2or 3 times and then flashes ebay & goes to my bank.
3) As we all know microsoft has a nasty habit of throwing me off the internet in the middle of an email, a listing on Ebay, etc. I'm not a fast typer and when i lose everything all the time..........
4)I have had the awful feeling that microsoft owns my computer, which i just bought 2/14/04. This is not acceptable; this computer has put me thru hell & caused several fights in our family; if you can help email me at golfproline@yahoo.com (put do not put in bulk mail; put Elizabeth Barnes somewhere on the subject line....I get 80+ and going up bulk mail a day so i delete it all from the outside) or call 941-544-1270 or I'll look for a live chat on your site.
5) The above is only just the tip of this iceberg; we run a business from home & xphome is just as bad as xpoffice. Maybe having an internet does invite everyone into your home, but xp/microsoft was not invited and I resent being owned by them; microsoft has become a legal hacker; instead of giving virus' they just take over the computer; they own it, but i paid for it. Libby
Buy a Mac, silly.
Windows XP activation is a monopoly. I have a desktop PC and a laptop at home, both for my own personal use. Microsoft would NOT allow me to load my OWN copy of Windows XP on both machines, even though I purchased it directly from them. They insisted I had to buy an additional "license" to load it on my desktop PC ... which costs the same as an entire new version of Windows XP. This is ROBBERY. Since when does a person not OWN something they BOUGHT from Microsoft? No wonder Bill Gates is a rich man. He brings the term "theft" to a whole new level ... and HE'S the one stealing from consumers now.
Hardly suprising really is it. You have purchased a single user license for Windows XP and so you have the right to use it on a single PC. If you purchased a car from BMW would you really expect to be able to drive multiple BMW cars at no extra cost?
Actually you dont OWN the software, you just pay for the right to use it.
This is like watching Satellite or cable TV, you dont OWN the channels just the right to view them on a single TV set .. you can view it on other TV sets in your house but this normally involves taking out an extra subscription.
Hope this clarifies the situation.
Just switch to linux.
Like the origional contributor I have 2 PC's, one at home and one at my appartment (work 200 miles from home 5 days) I would have liked to uses XP on both but refuse to line bills pockets anymore. If the activation could be easily transfered i would be happy.
I am not in 2 places at once and would only be using one instance of XP at any one time!
..... but allas linux or downgrade to 98 seems to be the only solution then sell XP if i can deactivate it.
