An agreement with Ericsson, announced on Tuesday, will see World Online rolling out a pan-European WAP service in the next few months. The ISP will use Ericsson's WAP 1.1 system to provide a range of services to its business and consumer customers throughout Europe. The two companies will also partner to develop wireless services and applications. "World Online looks forward to offering mobile Internet to both its business and consumer clients, who will be able to achieve greater 'freedom of movement' with this added mobile Internet access capability," stated Simon Duffy, deputy chairman and chief executive of World Online. World Online, which launched its UK service in January, already offers WAP email services in the Netherlands. It began its commercial WAP rollout in South Africa earlier this month. Meanwhile, Vodafone (quote: VOD), which has been lagging behind somewhat in its development of WAP services, has inked a deal with ticketingsolutions.com to provide its subscribers with ticket purchasing abilities. Vodafone subscribers with WAP handsets will be able to reserve and purchase tickets from ticketingsolutions.com's partners, including restaurants, sporting events and weekend breaks.
