For a short period of time web devolpers got rid of the problem which format to deliver video in. As most Video platforms use Flash to display video content one could assume that any site visitor wishing to watch a video had a Flash player on board. The Ipphone / Ipod can not display Flash content neither can the Ipad. Apple circumvents this problem by providing a software that converts Youtube videos to something that the said devices can display. But just Youtube, not Flash videos in general. So if a webmaster does not want to upload a video on Youtube they will have to provide both Flash and Quicktime. This means double server space and close to twice the server costs. The only solution I can think of is a web standard for video. But even then it may take years until we can assume that most browsers can display the new web standard. If the new standard is Quicktime PC user will soon be encouraged to download Quicktime player. If it’s Ogg Theora Apple will be under pressure to change their Iphone and Ipad software as well as Safari and Microsoft will have to change IE. Either way will work but we need the new standard as soon as possible.
