MP3 to be part of booth culture

Stations, airports and shopping centres are to rock to the sound of MP3 as Photo-Me launches digital kiosks Wednesday. In a deal with American music site musicmaker.com, MP3 lovers will be able to download tracks directly on to players or customised CDs. It is the latest move to give photo booths a hi-tech makeover. In May, Photo-Me announced existing kiosks would be given Internet access by the end of the year. The music kiosks will be separate booths and look "like a coke machine" according to a Photo-Me spokesman. Initially ten booths in the US and UK will be fitted out with the music service. Each kiosk will have the choice of between 5,000 and 10,000 digital tracks in a wide range of genres. Customers will be able to "make and take" compilation CDs, which will delivered within five to seven minutes. The CDs can be customised with between five and 20 tracks and will cost around 60p per track. The kiosks will be installed early next year. If the trial proves successful, another 5,000 kiosks will be rolled out soon after, located in shopping centres, railway stations, airports, cinemas and music shops. Take me to the MP3 Special
