Gates: Convergence means more - of everything

When you think of convergence, you think of consolidation. But during his keynote speech before the Consumer Electronics Show Wednesday evening, Microsoft CEO Bill Gates disabused his audience of any such future. Instead, convergence, the coming together of TVs, telephones and computers through digital technology, "is not about a single device that you use for everything," he said. "Convergence is not having fewer companies that own everything." In truth, he said, convergence will create more devices of different shapes and sizes -- from small handheld computers to those with giant screens.
