Tithe, tethered, tied to the post... all words or expressions aimed at keeping you close by in one form or another. Ok, off you go, the cord is severed.
Hooray we're free! But wait, now that I'm really mobile, when I'm on the move what will 8MBps do for me unless I'm downloading 100terrabytes before my next meeting, or, I've got my eyes glued to a myopic screen that has a sincerely gorgeous blonde doing... oh, hell-o... your name is Ulala? ... isn't that fascinating ... oh my, thats not possible is it? Oops, I've just walked over the street and been squashed by a rubbish truck with Boris Johnson onboard who is quite happily seeing what the binmen are up to at this ridiculous time in the morning in Bermondsey.
Pornography *is* the killer app from a marketing point of view other than interactive video a.k.a vid-conf. But if you really want to hog the bandwidth, then get a larger screen - which means you will be parked up. The next big thing in mobile might be a flexible fold-out, or slide out micro-LED screens... like the those shown on that sci-fi series Earth - Final Conflict.
As I've said many years ago... other than video, there are no other apps that consume vast amounts of bandwidth simply because the handset is too small a device to achieve multiplicity in applications, either visual (screen - myopic eyepiece versus a 19" screen) or tactile (keypad/touchscreen versus keyboard and mouse/pointer) for anything other than singular type apps.
You want a device that can knock socks off? Design me a universal fold-open dock where an iPhone or Android can slot in and fire up a 19" screen with either Wii or keyboard/mouse options. Killer applications are only as good as the device you can run it on.
Who please, is doing research on low-drain, high output, flexi-screens? Might not need 2x glasses to look at Ulala, once I get out of hospital...
