AWS disrupted by US east coast failure
Amazon Web Services' cloud has taken a hit from problems in its US East Coast region, downing multiple sites that depend upon the service.
Amazon's Relational Database Service (RDS) manages database admin tasks such as provisioning, backups, patching and monitoring for Oracle Database 11g Release 2. The AWS Oracle RDS comes in two versions: the first is a licence-included model, which means that customers do not need a separate Oracle licence; AWS will licence the Oracle database. That service runs 16 cents (10p) per hour.
The second option is a bring-your-own-licence model, in which customers can run Oracle's database on Amazon's RDS for 11 cents an hour.
