Ummm... somehow the story doesn't quite live up to the headline.

The casing and keyboard design of the TZ family were inspired by submerged stones in a Japanese water garden, Sony claims.

Thanks for your comments 1000097141 and Modafo. Sony's words, not ours. I think a large amount of imagination is required. And if you can get into Sony's deeply psychological mindset before me...
Well, the wonders of product specs. No wonder people end up buying the wrong machines.
I asked Sony to explain exactly how the machines were inspired by a Japanese water garden. Our email conversation went like this.
ZDNet: In what way is the TZ inspired by the submerged stones of a Japanese water garden? Our readers can’t see it. Please let me know.
Sony: As we haven’t yet seen samples on this we’re just looking into this and will let you know shortly.
ZDNet: I’m sure Sony has seen the products. I’ll need to update the story at close of play tomorrow [which is now today]
Sony: Yes they have and I have put your question forward.
Silence, silence and more silence. No reply. Nada. Nothing.
Have Sony's designers seen a Japanese water garden before? Or has something gone badly amiss in one of the world's top notebook vendors?
At this rate the next thing we know my next Dell Latitude will be modelled on the Loch Ness Monster.
