Facebook is blocking a number of Orange UK customers, both companies said on Friday.

Affected Orange customers trying to visit the social-networking website are receiving the notification "Access restricted: bad IP" and the message "You are trying to access Facebook from an IP (internet protocol) address that has been associated with abusive behaviour".

A Facebook spokeswoman said that some Orange customers had been affected, and that the company hoped to sort out the problem.

"We are aware that some people with Orange UK ISP addresses are having problems logging on to Facebook," Facebook told ZDNet UK in a statement. "We are working on a fix which we hope to roll out as soon as possible."

A number of customers have posted their dissatisfaction on Twitter about the situation. "Still not working. Why join another network when yours needs fixing? Orange, sort it out," wrote one user that goes by the name of 'rsc00'.

Orange was unable to say how many of its customers were being blocked at the time of writing.

Some users reported having no problems accessing the site. "My other half can't, but I can and haven't had a disruption all morning either. We're both on Orange," wrote a person with the username 'GalaxyPuppet' on Twitter.

Orange acknowledged the situation in a statement to ZDNet UK, but declined to give an explanation of the cause.

"We are aware that our mobile customers are currently having issues accessing Facebook via their handsets," said an Orange spokeswoman. "We are working with Facebook to fix this as a matter of priority and would like to apologise to our customers for the inconvenience this may cause them."

On 19 August, Orange confirmed that some of its users were having problems accessing its data network as reports of inability to access the service flooded Twitter.

Come on Orange, sort it out asap. I know of nine people now, close friends that can't get onto facebook via orange. We don't pay you large amounts of money each month for this to happen!

Lots of handsets all sharing one unique IP, I bet the Facebook server probably thought it was a flood attack and sh*tlisted it :)

Still no access to facebook this has been going on since Friday of last week and still know official wording on either facebook or orange stating what the timescale is to rectify it.

Hmmm, a bit of a strange one indeed...I tried accessing Facebook via Orange's data network on Monday and had no trouble, so it would seem that it has been [only] partially rectified...you could try asking @OrangeHelpers on Twitter to see if they have a suggestion/timescale for a fix...aside of that I guess it's more of a Facebook issue....without either side saying what the actual problem is, it's difficult to say....

I can access part of facebook if I enter via Orange Social network but this has limited information and actions but to try and go direct from the phone I just get the IP problem.

Its strange as my phone is emailed if someone up dates my status. Also my wife can access facebook on her orange phone.

The same thing is happening to me also for the last few days. I have tried to contact the faceless facebook but not having much success. Wouldn't it be nice if they had a telephone contact number - or is that far too much to expect.

I can also get notifications from Facebook on my mobile - I had one today although not sure I'm getting all of them. Emailed Orange about it but had no reply so far. Maybe it's only a few of us affected so they won't bother about it. Why doesn't Facebook or Orange acknowledge us?

I'm still trying to get a response from Orange or Facebook for an estimate of when the situation will be rectified, not hearing much as yet but will keep you all updated.....

This is crazy. It's been over a week now. Not that I'm a Facebook addict, but use it to organise weekend activities. Will be interesting to see if Orange will offer any kind of good will gesture.
