The record-breaking message was sent to a Motorola exec, and read: "One small text for man, one giant leap for mobilekind — thanks Motorola".
The handset maker claims the MOTO Z8 is HSDPA-ready, has video playback with speeds of up to 30 frames per second, high-definition video capture and includes a 16 million colour 35mm x 50mm QVGA full-screen display.
No detail was available on what the phone call cost, but more details on the climb can be found on the official site.
