This week ITV announced that Freeserve has signed up as a major partner in its millennium Year of Promise campaign. This is an eight month on-screen campaign, beginning 17 October, that encourages individuals, groups and corporates to make a public promise to benefit others. Freeserve will be hosting the Web site for the campaign and will manage the database where every promise will be entered and made publicly accessible until December 2000. The public will be able to register their promises online, and there will be additional content, including ideas for promises. With celebrities such as Tom Jones, Des Lynam and Helen Baxendale onboard, and ITV committed to allocating the campaign five percent of total promotional airtime, this should be a massive traffic booster for Freeserve. However Neil Sansom, marketing director for Freeserve, promises that the partnership is not all to do with attracting eyeballs for advertisers, but is "about putting something back into the community". Sansom said that the ISP was committed to supporting the Year of Promise campaign in its full Internet advertising strategy. The site goes live on 17 October at www.itv.yearofpromise.co.uk. Other major partners in the campaign announced today include Dixons, Currys, PC World, The Link and @jakarta.
