Excite@Home will become the "portal partner" for Sega of America's Dreamcast network, providing content and a specialised version of its site for users of the gaming console. Today's announcement calls for Excite@Home to develop content designed specifically to be viewed on a television through the Dreamcast browser. "Excite@Home is, and will continue to be, at the vanguard of a media revolution as devices like the Sega Dreamcast console and advanced digital set-top boxes transform televisions from one-way broadcast receivers to two-way network terminals. This will not only open up new markets for the Internet, but will also redefine TV programming and advertising as we know it today," said Excite Vice President Mark Stevens. In August, Sega said that AT&T would be the preferred Internet service provider for the Dreamcast system, which allows gamers to chat, read email and browse the Web using a 56 Kbps modem. However, the Dreamcast Network will not support online games until the third quarter of 2000. Financial terms of the multi-year deal were not released.
