Google has acquired social-search provider Aardvark, hot on the heels of its Google Buzz launch.
Google declined to share financial terms of the deal, but TechCrunch reported on Thursday that Google paid $50m (£30m) for the start-up. "We have signed a definitive agreement to acquire Aardvark, but we don't have any additional details to share right now," a company representative said in a statement.
Aardvark's search engine scans the profiles of people users have designated as friends in an attempt to match their expertise or interests with a query — for example, if a user wanted a restaurant recommendation for a certain area. Aardvark lets users choose topics on which they are willing to be questioned when they set up their own profile.
