AMD cuts ties with Evesham

NEWS

AMD has terminated its relationship with troubled PC manufacturer Evesham.

Evesham fell into administration earlier in August after months of financial difficulties, axing 150 jobs in the process.

The business was rescued by a £22m interim investment from Tahir Mohsan, the former owner of Time Computers, whose parent company, Granville Technology Group, went into administration in 2005. As part of the investment a company called GeeMore Technology was created, which now trades as Evesham.

"AMD can confirm that it is no longer working with Evesham," said AMD in a statement on Friday. The processor manufacturer would not say whether its decision was a result of Evesham going into administration.

Evesham's Quest notebooks and all its desktops that retail for under £799 are based on AMD's processors. As a result of AMD's decision, Evesham will lose out on early processor samples and any co-marketing arrangements.

Richard Austin, Evesham's chairman, said that Evesham would now buy AMD processors indirectly. He claimed that no supply issues would result.
