Sharman Networks -- owner of popular peer-to-peer software Kazaa -- has succeeded in eliminating a hacked version of its software.
Kazaa Lite K++ was touted as a way to protect P2P users from "organisations such as the RIAA" invading their privacy, but also blocked features of the Kazaa software deemed as adware and spyware.
Sharman Networks, according to reports, has contacted the Internet service provider of every Web site that hosted Kazaa Lite K++ and threatened them with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act unless access to the modified software was removed. This follows a move earlier in the year when Sharman Networks used the same legislation to force Google to remove links to the modified version or face legal action.
Sharman Networks had its eye on Kazaa Lite as long ago as April last year.
Kazaa became the most downloaded peer-to-peer software earlier this year, and has been engaged in running legal battles with the Recording Industry Association of America.

Talkback
Kazaa Lite was the best.
Somebody get me a linux version please.
"Reports of my death are greatly exaggerated"
Kazaa Lite K++ had a more thorough search function, no ads, no spyware. Time to go back to swapping cassettes with our buddies? The best P2P is now gone.
Kazaa Lite K++ was the greatest of all P2P networking applications, an edited version which made it even more reliable and trustable than the original.
I encourage some people out there to start leaking out the Kazaa Lite K++ versions out back again soon.
whats to prevent posting kazaa lite on kazaa's own network?
well, kazaa lite K++ was the coolest thing. The colors were blue, not that stupid green. That and the fact that the RIAA wasnt snooping in attracted many users. Who cares what Sharman says?
This sharman network is too greedy. They just want to kill the greatest thing ever happen since napster.
Try LimeWire or Kazaam
Im not a kazaa lite user but im tired of the mone hungry bastards that wont let people enjoy music! If i was a music artist i would be thrilled to know people was taking out a few minutes to either download some songs they liked or just finding out about my music. I do music searches to see if there are artists out there that i havent heard of and might like so i can go out and by the cd if its worth buying and not for just one song.... SO TO THE MONEY HUNGRY FCKERS OUT THERE, I DOUBT THE ARTISTS ARE SEEING ANY MONEY FROM THESE LAWSUITS... SO STOP BITCHING AND LET US SHARE OUR MUSIC!!!!!
Hey everyone, Kazaa Lite is def avaibale on the Kazaa network and is still on the web (if you know where to look) (Hint: Ask around in the K-Lite IRC chat)
If kazza didnt have the addaware and spyware in it it would be better ...sharman needs to look at taking the shit out of it
Irony is a mofo sometimes, isn't it?
Of course, this won't stop the software from being used or available for download. In fact, the heavily modified versions of Kazaa in the form of Kazaa Lite, are available on the P2P using Kazaa itself.
Kazaa Lite started out as a way to just remove the adware and spyware software that comes with Kazaa (the latest build of regular Kazaa had at least 9 adware entries made to the registry), but then it evolved. That's what happens when something becomes popular, and more importantly, inobtrusive.
Personally, I will forever use Kazaa Lite, even if I have to go as far as getting the latest build using DCC transfers in IRC (real IRC kids.. u know, from "back in the day").

New version of Kazaa 2.6 is rubbish, read your user opinions Sharman. Kazaa lite on the other hand is brillant. Maybe Sharman should employ the authors of lite and clean up its own back yard rather than paying there lawyers and maintaining a sub standard file sharing program that it is today.
You sold out Sharman, kazaa lite is every thing a good file sharing program should be, and you know this, thats why you want it gone.
Sharman netwoks can keep their damn trojans. I dont need trash like cydoor in my system slowing it down.
Nothing apparently...
Seemed to be the only place I could find it...
How ironic is that.. :-)
If you can't find K++ on Web, open your KMD and search for "K++" or "KLite", people are still sharin it. Or search on DC++...
Sharman may have clamped down
on all American distributers of Kazaa
lite - and convinced google to get
rid of any searches with it -
however it can still be found with
other search engines on non-American
sites.
As far as I'm concerned this was a bad idea on the part of Kazaa. It just ment free advertising for K++ (a far superior product). It is still available on the Kazaa network and will always be available on warez sites. This has just enouraged me to make copies of it to pass to my friends =P
its too bad that its so hard to find kazaa lite k++. I still use that version, but if i had to use regular kazaa i would just give up and turn off to computer because it is so unbelievably slow
Kazaa Lite K++ is still on Sharman's FastTrack network. Go ahead and do a search on Kazaa for "Kazaa Lite." K++ Eliminated? I don't think so. Sharman is getting into something it can't handle.
I believe that KazaA K++ had the right idea to a fault which resulted in its demise.
I think uploading should be permanently on but capped to about 6kbyte a sec or above depending on connection and you should not be able to turn off supernode option.
Original KazaA has to much junk piled in with it and offering an upgraded version for a price it just plain stupid, users I’m sure, prefer to remain anonymous. Plus there is a better way top manage the network making it more cost effective and keeping the Sharman Networks in business.
eDonkey is a good example, ‘tis a shame that most users are very tight fisted, plus the original eDonkey software has gone the way of Sharman!
In the long run the public will win, simply because what is a popular file sharing network without the public? Contradiction?
WTF? Does sharmen want all of thier program users to go to jail? WTF? Damn sharmen, how abotu telling everyone about the spyware you put in your programs.
Unlike Napster.. K++ will live forever
I find it interesting how the network is trying to shut down a program that is quite obviously a better version of their product. It protects the users much more than the original Kazaa Media Desktop. The lack of spy/adware was the bonus that most people were searching for:
Who ever really wanted the added bonus of a corrupt registry and continuous pop-ups?
Sure the people at Sharman Networks had the right idea, but stopping something that is by far better than they could ever manage, wake up Sharman.
This is what happens when "immoral" practitioeners suddenly get ethical- or maybe it has something to do with money. There has got to be a way to stop these people with double standards.
K++ won't work on FastTrack after a while, anyway. I read on another article that the new version of Kazaa will cause incompatibility issues with K++, and people with the K++ client will not be able to download or share or do ANYTHING with others (K++, KazaaLite or just plain old Kazaa). Just our luck, huh? I was an avid K++ user.
Just a quick note to those who plan on downloading Kazaa Lite K++ off the Kazaa Network (yes it can be done) - I downloaded a copy yesterday, and it had the Win32/Parite virus in it, so BEWARE...
They Just screwed themselves. Microsoft all over again
The file sharing will NOT stop no mater what the afficials do. kazaa lite is down but not others ... and several more on a way to come out in ......
kazaa lite k++
was the best file sharing program ever to live it was fast reliable and thurough in its searches all without adverts
I do not believe that it will be possible for sherman to get this kind of deals. The reason being, I'm a record producer and I'm paid by album sold. We in the buisness make rufly 1.50$ per album sold. Now if the album of already on p2p programs we are not paied for these albums that are not sold. Also ofr the records company, selling these albums are a must to be able to put money in newer bands and/or solo artist how are starting out. Here in canada, To record a asrtist it cost aroun 130k. Thats only the record. Then there is the marketing and so on. So rufly it cost between 500k to a million to produce one artist.
I think that file sharing is good to get demos out on the market and make these artist knowed but as far as movies or music cds, it shouldnt be allowed.
Now, how can a company go by and use this digital act when it know for a fact that the program they made is being use iligaly to distribute copy righted materials. It's noncence and I trully hope that sharmen will loose their battles againt the music industry.
Sharman... i thought they were the good guys ? providing us with free software and fighting back for the people. Dont let the rich get richer, they only want this to keep people like you and me controlled. I dont mind buying CDs and such, but i for damn sure would rather download the songs on it before buying it and finding out they are crap. The little guy is getting really sick of being pushed around by the big guy.. and soon he's going to do something about it.
Kazaa Lite is a program by people, for people. None of the developers asked for any money. It's just shared freely so that people don't have to use virus ridden programs like Grokster and Kazaa.
Bravo Kazaa Lite!!! P2P sharing will continue... perhaps a name change is in order?
oh boo hoo, sharman has their panties in a bunch, they can piss off.
is this the end for file sharing? what am i gonna do now guys?
I even find it hard to believe that a major P2P player would want their name in the media, when they are surely the hunted themselves.
someone should call the creator of kazaa and tell him that he should stop being an idiot and actually look a kazaa lite k++ and download it himeself because it is way better that just plain kazaa. I dont know about you but i dont want to get screwed by the riaa so use kazaa lite k++ and anyone who tells you that you shouldnt doesnt know shit.
Hail to the king baby!!! Go K++
I think it is kind of funny that the people who started their business (Kazaa) by preventing others (like music industry) from getting money are mad because they are losing advertisement money to someone who came out with a way to give people the things they want for free.
I wonder how it feels to walk in some other person's shoes?
psst....you can still download k-lite from morpheus for free
If you're sobbing over KaZaA Lite's "death", get over it.
Find Shareaza if you can't live without it. It's works on the KaZaA network as well as on the ed2k network. No spyware, adware, or other malware.
Hopefully, this idiotic movie by Sharman will push people to start using better, non-proprietary filesharing networks and systems (ed2k, bittorrent, IRC).
fools!, Sharman networks may have wiped K-lite from the web, But it is easily avilable on thier own network!
i heard a rumor (cough) that sharman networks is limiting people who are using kazaa lite to like 2.0kbps. i heard it as a rumour though! and i wont be saying if i use kazza lite and it has affected me *which it hasnt* becosue i dont use it.... (cough)
yeah kazaa suckz0rs kazza lite 0wns and as long as there is the internet and P2P there will be kazaa lite!
Both of these programs (kazaa, kazaa lite) or any other free p2p is based on the illeagal trade of music. people want to share on p2p without the hassle of adds. The only way to beat out a hacked version and other p2p programs is make it better. remove the anoying adds. not to get all tissy about someone illegaly hacking an ilegal enterprise! its like the robber sueing the person he robbed because he tripped in the kitchen and cut his leg on a knife, and winning.
They are totally maddddddddddd!!!!!!!! like G. W.Bush.
I don't think anybody can stop this, such an wonderfull site (kazaalite), Shareman networks ve to works further five years more for what kazaalite verson has got now.
Who is going to pay for Kazz.com. Anyway am sure soon people will hack kazaa pro as well.
In the mean time God Bless Kazaalite.
Love bablu
Anyone who seriously believes that they can put the p2p networks and their software out of business is either mad or doesn't understand what is really going on.
As a regular user of this type of software, I know there are hundreds of p2p programs knocking around and more and more being created everyday.
It's about time that these people who are trying to stop this (and aren't they the same ones who started the trend in first place?) are never going to stop this sort of thing going on and get a life instead of moaning about how they are being ripped off.
As long as PCs can communicate - let this continue and fuck the lot of them.
Search Kazaa for "klitekpp" to find K++. It'll be around 3.2MB.
Hey Everyone! Let's be sure to share the latest version of Kazaa Lite on the P2P network. Who needs websites to get it anyway?
The Reason people want kazaa lite is because kmd is full of spyware, and adware. every person I know who downloaded kmd had computer problems, and the only way to get rid of them was to get rid of kmd, and then run ad-aware, and spybot. Kazaa lite wasn't bundled with thousands of random pop-ups, and useless crap, It was kazaa without everyone having slow computers and misc. ads all over their computer!! Get kazaa lite back, you are just screwing up other peoples computers by making them choose kmd.
The funniest thing is that people are using this site to share the same program the old sites used to have......to bad u guys arent smart enough lol what a joke
