IBM announces ID and access management service

IBM is to augment its managed security services with an identity and access management offering.

The company announced on Thursday that the identity and access management service would help businesses counter the "perfect storm" of rising cybercrime and falling security budgets.

"Over the past four months, we've seen a significant increase in the amount of attack activity being detected," said Jason Hilling, management and services strategy executive for IBM internet security systems.

The move was prompted by IBM's X-Force security team detecting a 30 percent increase in cybersecurity incidents over the past 120 days, from 1.8 billion to 2.5 billion, based on data collected from IBM's 3,700 managed-security-service clients.

IBM's managed security services at the moment include vulnerability scanning, intrusion detection, firewall management and incident management. The new service will allow organisations to define system users and manage who has access to sensitive data and applications.

No details were available at the time of writing about when the identity and access management service would be launched.

IBM also announced on Thursday that it would offer a formal reseller programme for its managed security services. Under the programme, resellers will be able to offer IBM-backed managed security services.
