On a wider note, it does have wider implications for how the US wishes to treat innovation; whether it wishes to reward it using the patent system, or stifle it. I note that Barack Obama has taken a personal interest in this from a legal point of view. I think he was well aware of the original notion of the patent in the US as espoused by Thomas Jefferson, and has been using similar language to that effect, in my opinion. Watch this space.......!
