A number of people have griped about Ubuntu's default brown colour-scheme, but it's still there with version 7.10. Of course, individuals can pick something else. Shown here is the initial log-on screen of 7.10, also called 'Gutsy Gibbon', which Ubuntu-sponsor Canonical plans to release in final form on 18 October.

Downloaded Gutsy, v7.10 last night. Ran the live version worked perfectly. Interestingly even my new Logitecth MX Air which is supposed to be Windows XP/Vista Only (not even Mac!) worked perfectly straight from the box including Volume highlights. Love the Wireless, the new graphics - worked well on 82852/82855 Centrino Chipset.
Personally if I was setting up my company from scratch - I'd use Ubuntu, why would anyone on a tight budget risk installing/using pirated software, or spending £300-500 of your initial budget per machine on software which either way would be a threat to their business.

This software is much more business oriented than Vista. Anyone who has tried to copy more than a few files with Vista will realise it can't even do that very well or quickly.

The time saved by having everything just working from scratch ie. Word processing , spreadsheet, presentation software. Rather than Windows XP with its SP2, then a further 82-100 updates. Office (and all its updates) , antivirus (all those updates) the list goes on.

This just works - give it a go by booting from the DVD, it doesn't install anything to start with , but gives you the option to test it on your machine, and then install if you like the results.

There is also a much smaller CD version available (702MB) , the DVD is a big file so give your ISP a break and download overnight or via torrents.
Its about time business's gave Linux a go, this version tips the balance in the favour of productivity, and away from XP. (No wonder the scare mongering of patent infridgements has started - they are worried)

This is a response to the picture showing workspaces mapped onto faces of a cube.

I regularly use up to 10 different virtual desktops on my linux systems (desktop fedora 6, laptop fedora 7), made very easy using the small, fast, reliable, uncluttered and gimmick-free ctwm window manager.

Keyboard short-cuts enable me to flip between workspaces very quickly.

I cannot imagine how windows users do serious work with only one workspace. It would drive me nuts.
