Linux kernel 2.6 heads for final testing

Talkback Linux is NOT, REPEAT NOT, ".based on Unix! You say: Linux is based on Unix" Classic ZDNet "mistake. It reinforces the abysmally-wrong premise put out to the less-savvy by the SCO bandits. It is an erroneous idea that's been parroted by too much of...

Linux kernel 2.6 heads for final testing

Talkback Linux is not late or delayed. Because it has no deadlines and release dates. The "It'll be ready when its ready" approach is much easier to plan with. Now that the development release is finalised I can start to think about it.

Red Hat doffs cap at latest Fedora

Talkback Am I missing something, or isn't Fedora supposed to be bleeding edge? If so, why are they only now coming to market with a Kernel 2.6 product? Oh, wait a minute, I downloaded it in March when it was released to its FTP servers.

RE: Light and dark with Luxim and Ceravision

Blog Comment In actuality, from the beginning, Luxim knew quite well who had invented their RF plasma light technology, and it wasn't anyone affiliated with Ceravision. Hence, they had no intention on sharing the rights to what they, and only they, had rightful...

Dell admits Indian mistake

Talkback I own 2 computers, 1 for business, 1 for personal use, and I purchased 3-year complete care warranties on both. Both computers are having problems, so I called Dell Customer Care for both of them on September 12, 2005.

Yahoo offers 100MB of email space

Talkback I figured out the fix to convert your account from 4MB / 6MB to 100MB: A friend of mine was having the same problem, a 6MB account, while I had a 100MB account. So I compared the differences and figured it out.

Rupert Goodwins' Diary

Blog Thursday Is this the beginning of the end for the Braun tube? Known to us Anglo-Saxons as the CRT, it's been around for more than a hundred years -- not bad going for an electronic component. But with the high end of the market being gobbled up by...

Blog Thursday What does the word Screenfridge suggest to you? A cinema club in Brixton? A Bond villain? A rather nasty virus that freezes your computer? It's actually the name of a household appliance that - yes!

Latest Linux technology takes slow road to the enterprise

Talkback With the Fedora Core 1 release (i.e. Redhat 10), you can just install the latest 2.6 test kernel as if it were a normal kernel upgrade for maintenance (all requisite software is in place). It appears as stable as a recent 2.4 kernel to me.

When does Copyrighted Software cease to be Copyrighted?

Bulldog users bite back over poor service

Talkback We went live with Bulldog broadband on the 26 July and since then haven't had a working telephone service, it's now the 5th October! Dozens of calls to their support department yield "an engineer will call you back in 48 hours" and this never happens.
