Talkback One thing needs to be clear about these municipal owned fiber networks. So Verizon, if they choose to, still can provide service through these fiber networks competing against other providers. These network infrastructure is just an infrastructure.

Talkback Yea yea, I know that BT's official line was to avoid fiber optics for the next 20years, then this new (and young) chappy was made boss and with Virgin rolling out fiber optics suddenly BT found 1.5BN to spend on this, which is on the cheap.

Talkback Quantum Crypto will never become mainstream, because it relies on a dark fiber end-to-end connection, i.e.no active optical elements (like repeaters, multiplexers, etc.which you don't have and won't have.

Talkback Thats not always entirely true, about 10+ years ago Comcast started to lay fiber cabs to the streets in north Yorkshire, my guess is that the local councils in these areas demanded less money than London borough councils wanted from the company.

Talkback Technological progress and optical fiber ensure that sufficent bandwidth is available. People get paid for these opinions ? The statements on bandwidth are simply not true and never have been true. Bandwidth growth is 40% p.a.in the USA.

Talkback Our connection is a full 2mb leased line over fiber. The company i work for has a leased line. We buy from a different company. I would say, that this is to little to late from BT. BT are still using copper.
