Rupert Goodwins' Diary
Blog A story in New Scientist, backed up by a pal's personal experience, mentions a recent hi-fi show in London. Now, hi-fi cables are a case unto themselves. Wednesday 29/10/2003 Good to see that the old school high fidelity audio loony is still alive...

RE: An eloquent piece of dumbass nonsense
Blog Comment I did once have a ridiculous argument with a hi-fi nut over optical interconnects, where he said that very expensive ones were better than cheap ones because they had 'lower jitter'. You are so right.

Fancy a £700,000 stereo?
Talkback When I launched T3 magazine, some 8 years ago or so, I went to this show and saw/heard a 1.5 million dollar hi-fi that was 2 speakers, 2 monobloc amps and a cd player. Pah to your 700k one!

Windows XP Media Center Edition
Member Review If it worked like you know a Hi-Fi would, it would be a winner, shame that it feels cobbled together. Nice product, right price withsome Media Centre PCs now sub £900 (Evesham) -- shame that it's still too much Windows and not enough Media Centre.

Rupert Goodwins' Diary
Blog Earphones aren’t always convenient, and while you can hook the device up to your hi-fi at home with a standard lead it’s more difficult if you’re in a car or the bathroom. Thursday 31/07/2003 If you’ve bought an iPod, you’ve probably found it’s...

Love it
Talkback Thanks for this, a great explanation of the stupid wi-fi scare. Hi I first discovered that microwave ovens were bad things when I used to make my coffee and went back to laptop and found I was disconnected from VPN.

Microsoft's Ballmer: Digital device for the living room at 'tipping point'
Talkback Imagine, you could keep all your movies and music on a Microsoft computer, stream them to a Microsoft set top box or Microsoft Hi-Fi, take them around on a Microsoft media centre. Apple soft on principles behind DRM.

RE: BBC HD Freeview encryption confusion
Blog Comment If you use a digital box with a hi-fi system, or another device that can only be used to produce sounds and can't display TV programmes, and you don't install or use any other TV receiving equipment, you don't need a TV Licence.

Free as the air

Poles Apart
Blog What this means for competition is that you're able to choose a new TV, PC, printer, Hi-Fi or even a humble desk lamp based on its merits, not purely on whether it's compatible with the mains in your house.
