Fedora 12 Alpha and The Moblin User Experience

Blog MMS (Multi-Boot Mini-Server, Dual Atom nettop): Installed smoothly, works extremely well, and is overall very nice. ASUS N10J (Atom netbook): Seemed to take a very long time to boot the LiveCD, I had just about decided that it was hung when it...

DIY Dual Atom Nettop System

Blog Intel says that the hyperthreading in the Atom causes the Dual CPU to appear as four processors, so that is normal. Ubuntu saw all the hardware just fine, and even reported the CPU as a Quad-Atom system!

P3 Xubuntu

Blog In many ways this system is much like the new Intel Atom systems at least in feature set and speed. So Xubuntu might be a OS solution for the Atom netbooks. The admin tools typically found on Ubuntu and Debian Gnome desktops are installed.

Another Look at openSolaris

Blog I tried the first installation on my Dual Atom nettop, for no particular reason other than it was sitting here running. Well, maybe it will, at least I'll give it a shot, because I've got to get Ant (the Dual Atom) back to where I can use it again.

Linux on netbooks

Talkback I have an HP mini, 8.9" screen, 1.6 atom processor, 1 gig memory, 16 gig SSD, 16 gig thumb drive, and an external powered CD/DVD writer. I installed Mandriva 2009 on the SSD, and it runs almost twice as fast as XP did.

RE: Ubuntu 9.04 'Jaunty Jackalope' Release Candidate

Blog Comment I have the UNR installed on my Lenovo S10e and, apart from some woes that I posted about earlier today, it runs very nicely on an atom 1.6 Netbook. What I would remind people is, that if you are installing using the new Ext4 file system on a...

Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic Koala) Beta

Blog ASUS N10J, Intel Atom Second, in the "not mentioned before" category, I have now installed Karmic Beta on the following systems: It will take at least two or three passes to get them all installed, because partial updates will be necessary at first...

Good Things on the Horizon - But Use Caution!

Blog So far I have only installed it on the Dual Atom nettop, but installation was easy, it seems to work just fine, and there are, as always, a lot of updated packages - including the latest KDE, Gnome, Xfce and X.org.

Fedora 11 - A Quirk in Installation

Blog It is installed and running on the Dual Atom Nettop and the Core2Duo notebook, and it is installing on the AMD/ATI notebook as I write this. Once that is done I will move on to the Atom Netbooks. I'm in the process of installing Fedora 11 on my...

Samsung NC20 - A Brief Encounter

Blog Second, the Nano CPU and Chrome9 graphic chip combine to make the whole thing feel significantly faster than the typical Intel Atom / GSM 945 netbook. This one had a VIA Nano processor, so we don't even have the typical "if it's an Atom, it's a...

Saving the "Best" for Last - Fedora 12 (Constantine)

Blog ASUS N10J: This should be a pretty typical netbook, with an Intel Atom 270 CPU and associated chips (as long as I don't switch on the nVidia graphic controller). Dual Atom MiniServer: This is the one I assembled myself, with a Dual Atom 330 CPU and...

Ubuntu Netbook Remix "Acid Test" - Wrap-Up

Blog It has an Atom CPU, a nice big screen (10.1 inches), a touchpad with two buttons, and a 160 GB disk drive. UNR installed and worked flawlessly, and my neighbor has been using it happily ever since. There was a minor problem that required changing...

RE: HP 2133 Mini-Note

Blog Comment Similarly specified to your Hp 2133 except, of course, the more usual Intel Atom 1.6 processor and chipsets, and a 10 inch screen. Only 1 Gb of Ram installed although it is straight forward to upgrade.

HP Mini 2140 - I Get To Try One!

Creating a Multi-Boot Mini-Server

Blog Then I realized that my nettop system, a Dual Atom motherboard in a Mini-ITX case, might be a good candidate. Obviously, I wouldn't choose an Atom (or even Dual Atom) for a server CPU, but my objective is just to get things loaded and learn about...

Blog Comment The intel atom seems to cope with it very well. When I first installed 7 on my acer one, I just let the 1 gb of ram handle things for a while. I also installed 7 on a vista running advent 5311. I've installed it on a 2.4ghz fully blown pentium 4...

Mandriva Spring 2009 Released

Blog I assume that it is at least as good, or even better, on "typical" Intel Atom based netbooks. As I said, it installed with absolutely no problems on both of my HP 2133 Mini-Notes. Mandriva made their 2009 Spring Release yesterday, and what a beauty...
