RE: Cisco's rare move to embrace interoperability
Blog Comment It's a move that customers would appreciate; now they can have a top end system at HQ and a mid-range system in other areas of the business. As for the cost; i wonder what features it has to make it value for money, considering that both Vista and...

Apple makes the move to Intel
Talkback AAAAAARGHH! NOOOOOO! It's the end of the world! Does this mean my next Mac will have a stupid 'Intel Inside' sticker on it? Ah well, as long as they don't stick any Celeron's in there, I'll survive.

RE: Is Red Hat threatening to do a Novell with latest virtualisation move?
Blog Comment This is a VERY different deal to what Novel did, and is a total kick in the teeth for them. RedHat have actually given away nothing, and made no compromises. No patent deal, no NDAs. This could get very interesting.

Move over, Google: Here's MSN Virtual Earth
Talkback I think that the Locate Me option that uses Wi-Fi would be really useful as a cheap GPS for digital cameras. Take the Kodak EasyShare One cam that has Wi-Fi built in allowing the user to send images over the web or syncing wirelessly with a computer.

RE: Has IBM's standards move started something?
Blog Comment Thanks for posting that. I'm aware of the irony in IBM's support for open standards, given much of its past history. However, I'm dubious about a lot of your post at ACT Online. It's interesting (and probably true) to point out that ODF was...

Talkback Here we have MS wanting to charge you lots for the same product with a different version number and lock you into a proprietary format aswell. Yes, their XML attempt will remain proprietary. Meanwhile there's OpenOffice which doesn't want a fortune...

Move over, Google: Here's MSN Virtual Earth

Microsoft to contest 'unjustified' EU move
Talkback What Microsoft is trying to do is "the fatique game" that worked so well with the US DoJ. I belive and hope thet the EU will not give in. Searh for: Case COMP/C-3/37.792 on Google and read the pdf. It is long but well written and there is no reason...

Microsoft's Groove move makes solid sense
Talkback Errr, people are forgetting that Novell is donating to Open Source as well. So what's the problem with groupware and Open Source? Perhaps more reporters need to visit BrainShare and get up to speed on a thing or two.

RE: Has IBM's standards move started something?
Blog Comment We have been fighting the IBM/Sun efforts to push "ODF mandates" through governments around the world, but never supporting a move toward OOXML or .DOC policies. Thanks for the response. I would like to correct a few things, however:

ECMA move is standard fare from Microsoft
Talkback I guess end users have had enough of incompatible formats across versions from MS. The trivial "upgrade" of a version format has happened in most of the Office releases since Word 1 - and end users have had enough or engineered incompatibility

RE: Has IBM's standards move started something?
Blog Comment So, just to be clear.you don't have time to actually debate arguments on the merit or specify what you find "dubious," so you' retreat to the bastion of lazy minds and go ad hominem. Well done. IBM is not just trying to create "company policy.
