OneCare in the community
Blog In it, our reporter Tom Espiner talked to a reasonably senior Microsoft security bloke about OneCare, part of the company's security thrust. We've heard a lot of things about OneCare, and some of them are very worrying.

OneCare needs some nursing, Microsoft blogger says
Blog Jimmy Kuo over at the Security Research & Response team has posted a refreshingly straightforward blog, in which he acknowledges that the antivirus code in OneCare needs work. Kuo, who moved to Microsoft in the footsteps of fellow former McAfee...

OneCare makes a splash
Talkback How long does it take for Microsoft to sell Onecare in the UK. They rarely bother translating the US version into UK English so why is it takeing them so long to sell it here?

Microsoft OneCare gets a bashing
Talkback My first reaction is that charging for OneCare is a bad idea. If Microsoft didn't charge for this proposed service, then it is highly likely that they would get sued for anti comepitive practices. This is like saying MS is obligated to relase...

They killed Clippy... is OneCare next?
Blog Strangely absent from the story of Madeline the CEO is her uncomfortable encounter with OneCare, the bumbling, partially-sighted yet amusingly-named security ogre. For those who thought our recent editorial comment on OneCare was a bit harsh on...

Microsoft OneCare gets a bashing
Talkback Truly amazing is the number of people who welcome their exploitation by industry. Workers of the world begging to be put in chains. I suppose this is the Reagan-Thatcher legacy. Microshaft us, please.

RE: OneCare in the community
Blog Comment From the linked article: While sales of security products may be a small part of revenue, security is huge part of their RND investment. I think he meant R&D budget - unless MS really DO sort of randomly invest in stuff and we're not too aware.

M$ Onecare
Talkback "a little part of Microsoft". Security has always been an afterthought with M$ software. Users are the testers, and the victims.

Microsoft OneCare gets a bashing
Talkback I have seen comments like these so many times it hurts my brain to think they are general opinion. And I am speaking to both sides on this. Microsoft should not charge to fix their software. They're not.

Windows OneCare Live Beta 2
Talkback It has come to the point that microsoft has the monopoly of the entire software industry. In this case they first create an OS full of security holes and then charge you in addition to the OS, a fee to fix the very holes they created.

Microsoft OneCare gets a bashing
Talkback It is perhaps the most underhand tactic Microsoft have played to date: Make an extremely unsecure operating system. Use a variety of illegal practises to get it into a monpoly position around the world (which they know isn't going to change anytime...

Microsoft OneCare gets a bashing
Talkback But then again I suppose if anyone knows how to protect an MS Operating system effectively it would be MS themselves? Whatever system they use though will be the one most actively targeted by the virus writers the same as IE is targeted at the moment.
